Job Description
The Bill of Material (BOM) Analyst position at Ford represents an exciting opportunity for fresh graduates and early-career professionals to join a global automotive leader. Roles & Responsibilities
- BOM Management: Create, maintain, and analyze Bills of Materials in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. This includes ensuring all components, product hierarchy/structure, and specifications are accurately documented and updated. You will be responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of information within systems, performing verification of launch BOM accuracy, and establishing BOM review processes for pre-production builds.
- Structure Development: Develop and maintain comprehensive BOMs that detail components, materials, assemblies, and sub-assemblies, including phantom BOMs and modular BOMs, as required by product complexity. This involves working with engineering drawings and specifications to ensure complete and accurate representation of product structures.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, purchasing, production, and supply chain teams to track changes, resolve discrepancies, and optimize BOM coding. Lead BOM review meetings with cross-functional teams for resolution of open issues and participate in engineering change and launch reviews. This requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Change Management: Manage engineering change orders and update BOMs accordingly. Assist in coordinating engineering and process changes while minimizing obsolete materials. This involves understanding the impact of changes on the overall product structure and ensuring all affected systems are updated accordingly.
- Inventory and Material Optimization: Support engineering and inventory control by leading efforts to maintain and improve inventory accuracy. Identify cost-saving opportunities through BOM data analysis and support cost reduction initiatives. This requires analytical thinking and the ability to identify patterns and opportunities for improvement.
- System and Process Improvement: Work closely with IT and system administrators to suggest enhancements to PLM/ERP systems to improve BOM data management, reporting, and user experience. Research and implement industry best practices for BOM management, configuration control, and product data governance to drive continuous improvement.
- New Product Introduction Support: Support new product introductions by developing initial BOMs, BOM scrubbing, and validation processes. This involves working closely with product development teams to ensure all necessary components and materials are properly documented and integrated into the manufacturing process.
- Training and Guidance: Develop a deep understanding of systems and processes, providing direction and training to colleagues. This includes creating documentation, conducting training sessions, and serving as a resource for other team members on BOM-related matters.
Eligibility Criteria & Skills
- Education: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering discipline, supply chain management, or business administration is preferred. Candidates from various engineering backgrounds including mechanical, electrical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering are encouraged to apply.
- Experience: Typically 0-5+ years of experience in BOM management, inventory management, or a related data field, particularly within the automotive industry. Fresh graduates with strong academic performance and relevant internships or projects are also encouraged to apply.
